TANDA! Sing na, Dance pa

MassKara  revelers at the public plaza, especially those dining and drinking at the kiosks, will be entertained with singing and dance contests nightly from Oct. 2 to 22 starting at 7 p.m.

Called, “Tanda! Sing na, Dance Pa,” it is an official event of the 37th MassKara Festival.

Events chair Israel Salanga said the contest is divided into two: singing contest that is open for individual contestants, and dance contest which will be participated by duos or partners.

There will be three performance stages around the plaza. Both the singing and dance contestants will start at San Juan side (in front of the BAYS Center) where they will perform to slow music/love songs; then transfer to the stage at the Gatuslao Street, where they will perform to upbeat or pop music; and finally proceed to the third stage in front of the replica of the Bacolod Government Center at the Gonzaga side, where they will perform to the music or dance song of their choice.

There will be nightly winners, who will compete again in the weekly finals on Oct. 8, 15, and 21. The grand finals will be onOct. 22.

The weekly will be held in front of the BGC replica at the Gonzaga side, while the grand finals will be held at the plaza bandstand.

The singing competition is open to amateur singers from Bacolod who are at least 15 years old.

The dance competition is open to amateur duos. Contestants must prepare their own CDs with songs (3 minutes minimum and 4 minutes maximum) for every category. The song can be in English or Filipino. Daily winners will receive P500 while non-winners will receive P250.

Weekly winners will receive P500 and non-winners—P250. For the grand finals, the champion will receive P3,000— second runner-up—P2,000, and third runner-up—P1,000.

All winners will also receive gift packs.

“Tanda!” proved to be a crowd-drawer during its first run in the 2012 MassKara Festival, organized by the Silver MassKara Festival Organization (SMFO). It enters its second year at this year’s MassKara, with the SMFO again as the festival organizer.*
