Bam Aquino graces Electric MassKara opening
Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV graced the opening of the 10th Electric MassKara at the Tourism Strip tonight (Oct 20).
Aquino lauded the Bacoleños resilience and optimism as the MassKara Festival was born out of tragedy.
He congratulated its people and city officials for what the MassKara has become today.
The opening was led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Rep. Greg Gasataya, and Councilors Caesar Distrito and Em Ang.
Conceptualized by Leonardia in 2007, when he was also mayor, the Electric MassKara turns the Tourism Strip—the whole 17 blocks of Lacson Street from 5th St. to 22nd St.—into one big street party, with concert stages in five clusters.
The opening night featured the MassKara dancers and Nights of Mardi Gras contestants.
The five concert stages were opened which started the four-night concerts brought by the festival’s corporate sponsors namely Coca-Cola, San Miguel Beer, Pepsi, and Globe.
On the second night (Friday, Oct 21) will be the performing float competition featuring nine groups representing Barangays 3, 7, 8, 22, 23, 28, 37, 41, and Singcang-Airport.
Each float will carry MassKara dancers with lighted masks and costumes. This is the night version of the popular streetdance competition.
The five finalists will come back on the third night (Oct 22) for the Champions Showdown.
The fourth and last night will still feature street parties and concerts.
Meanwhile, the Sadya ang MassKara with Mayor Bing: The 1st Mayor Evelio Leonardia Fireworks Competition, will be held at the Tourism Strip on October 21 and 22. Two participants will compete each night starting 10 p.m.*
