Multi-awarded choreographerSegundo Jesus “Panoy” Cabalcar, Jr. won the first Congressman Greg Gasataya Face-off: ‘The MassKara Dance Showdown’
Cabalcar romped off with the top prize over three choreographers who all also hold championship titles to their names.
The showdown started Monday (October 22) with Cabalcar winning over the Joedem Casabuena-Marphil Lamirez tandem earning his ticket to the championship.
The next night, William Bancaya earned a berth in the championship round when he beat Tata Bantolo.
Bancaya settled for second.
Casabuena-Lamirez was third. Bantolo was fourth.
Designed as a street competition, the showdown drew crowds from the barangays rooting for their favorite choreographers.
Each choreographer brought 8-10 dancers to form a team for the competition. The choreographers themselves participated in their dance number.
Cabalcar is a MassKara choreographer for 27 years now and has 21 championship belts. He has also been representing MassKara Festival to different countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Korea, to name a few.
He is also a Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health teacher of Bacolod City National High School.
